Things to do and see in CROMFORD and the surrounding area:

1. Arkwright Mill - first cotton mill built by Sir Richard Awkright

2. Masson Mill - built by Awkright, a working textile and shopping village

3. Willersley Castle - built by Awkright but Richard died before completion

4. St Mary's Bridge - contains the tomb of Sir Richard Awkright

6. Fishing Temple - visited often by Charles Cotton and Izaak Walton

 7. Cromford Canal - rich with wildlife and the towpath is walkable from  Cromford  to Ambergate

8. North Street - three storeyed houses, fine examples of Industrial Arc


9. Cromford Railway Station - located just outside of the village, the waiting room has been turned into a delightful cottage

10. Greyhound Pond - man-made dam created to suppy water for the wheels of the mills to drive

the machinery

11. The Greyhound Hotel - built by Awkright and surrounded by very interesting shops

12. Scarthin Bookshop - has a quaint tea room located in the "Music Room"

of the bookshop

13. Bear Pit - stone-lined pit sunk into Cromford Sough & regulated the

supply of water to the mills
